Role Overview
We seek a Lead Full Stack Developer to lead technical delivery, client projects, and healthcare integrations. With 3-5+ years in client handling and expertise in SMART on FHIR plus EHR systems (EPIC, Cerner, Athenahealth, etc.), you’ll architect solutions, manage stakeholder relationships, and mentor teams in our high-impact environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end client projects: gather requirements, design scalable architectures, and deliver FHIR/openEHR-based integrations with EHRs like EPIC, Cerner, and Athenahealth
- Architect and implement full-stack solutions (Node.js/Java/Python backend; React/Next.js frontend) using SMART on FHIR for secure app authorization and interoperability
- Handle client relationships: conduct technical discovery, demos, scoping discussions, and ensure project success with timelines, budgets, and quality standards
- Contribute to and maintain open-source healthcare repositories; perform code reviews and enforce best practices
- Translate clinical workflows into modular designs compliant with FHIR, SMART, openEHR, and healthcare regulations
- Mentor junior developers, support community growth through workshops, webinars, and technical content
- Collaborate with product, sales, and clinical teams to identify integration needs and developer pain points
- Represent Medblocks at client meetings, conferences, and demos showcasing EHR interoperability capabilities
Requirements
- 5+ years building modern web applications (Node.js, Java, or Python backend; React/Next.js frontend)
- 3-5+ years client-facing experience: leading projects, requirement gathering, technical sales support, and delivery in healthcare/tech startups
- Proven expertise in SMART on FHIR for app authentication/authorization and EHR integrations (EPIC, Cerner, Athenahealth, or similar)
- Strong fundamentals in system architecture, database design (PostgreSQL/MongoDB), APIs, and microservices
- Experience with healthcare standards (FHIR, openEHR, HL7) and real-world EMR integrations
- Excellent communication: simplifying complex integrations for clients/clinicians; fluent English (spoken/written)
- Collaborative leader with passion for open source, healthcare impact, and team mentorship
Nice to Have
- Prior open-source contributions in healthcare tech
- Cloud expertise (Docker, AWS/GCP, Firebase) and DevOps practices
- Domain knowledge in clinical workflows or compliance (HIPAA, GDPR, ISO27001)
- Experience with additional EHRs (Allscripts, NextGen) or terminology services (SNOMED CT, LOINC)
