Medblocks vs Tuva Health

How Medblocks compares to Tuva Health and the healthcare analytics platforms, across connectivity, modeling, and who they are built for.

Tuva Health is an open-source set of warehouse-native data models and quality checks. It sits in the normalized clinical data models circle of the healthcare integration landscape, alongside the broader analytics platforms Innovaccer, Arcadia, and Health Catalyst. These tools work on data once it is already aggregated: Tuva transforms what is already in your warehouse, and the enterprise platforms add aggregation and packaged applications on top.

Quick verdict

Choose Tuva if your source data already lives in your warehouse and your team wants to transform it with open, dbt-style SQL models and quality checks. Choose an enterprise platform like Innovaccer, Arcadia, or Health Catalyst if you are an organization buying a population-health platform with packaged analytics and applications.

Choose Medblocks if you still need to get the data in the first place, connected, deduplicated, and normalized. These tools start after the data has landed; Medblocks is the layer that lands it. It is not either-or: we deliver clean, modeled data into the same warehouse for tools like Tuva to build on.

native · ~ partial · not supported

  1. Medblocks brokered access: we provide extensive written guidance and one-to-one support on contracting with an organization and getting your own credentials installed. We don't do it on your behalf with our credentials.
  2. Embedding (Innovaccer, Arcadia): limited to the platform's own pre-built applications, not your custom SMART app or CDS Hooks cards.
  3. Medblocks HL7v2 interfacing: supported over HTTP with SMART Backend authentication, which major EHRs like Epic support natively.
  4. Tuva patient deduplication: handled by Tuva EMPI, a separate product you set up and pay for on its own, with its own implementation effort and possible subscription cost.
  5. Innovaccer export to warehouse: you get direct access to their warehouse and set up exports from there. Not a native export feature.
  6. Innovaccer pricing: based on the AWS Marketplace listing, the data activation platform ($600k) plus a care management add-on ($450k) over 36 months, about $350,000/year.

What the analytics platforms do well

Tuva is a strong, open-source set of warehouse-native data models and quality checks. If your data is already in the warehouse and your team works in SQL, it standardizes and validates that data well, in the open.

The enterprise platforms are substantial in a different way. Innovaccer, Arcadia, and Health Catalyst combine data aggregation with analytics and packaged applications, aimed at providers and payers running population-health programs. For an enterprise standardizing its own data and buying ready-made applications, they are capable platforms.

Where Medblocks goes further

Both kinds start after the data has landed. Tuva assumes the records are already in your warehouse and has no connectivity layer, so getting them there is your problem. The enterprise platforms aggregate, but they are built for the enterprise organization, not the product builder: the motion is a quote-based enterprise sale, and you adopt their platform and applications rather than composing capabilities into your own product.

Medblocks is built for builders. We handle the connection, deduplication, and normalization upstream, and expose it as APIs and SDKs you wire into your app under your own branding. We also deliver into the warehouses you already use, like Snowflake, Databricks, Redshift, Fabric, and BigQuery, in familiar shapes such as Tuva’s input layer, OMOP CDM, or openEHR models, ready for whatever processing comes next. The analytics layer is then yours to choose.

Pricing

Tuva is open source, priced per data model, with paid support. The enterprise platforms are quote-based and undisclosed, typically per-member enterprise contracts. Medblocks is a flat $60,000 per year for the connect-and-normalize layer that feeds whichever analytics tool you pick.

Using them together

This is the natural fit, especially for Tuva. Medblocks connects to your sources, deduplicates and normalizes, and delivers clean, modeled data straight into your warehouse, where Tuva’s models and quality checks build on it. You get the connectivity and reconciliation Medblocks is built for, and the open analytics layer Tuva does well, without one having to do the other’s job.
