• Catalonia’s hospital systems currently use 29 different EMRs, creating a fragmented landscape. The new strategy builds on the Shared Electronic Health Record of Catalonia (2007) to create a federated, open platform for data sharing.
• The openEHR initiative is structured around four key benefits: better continuity of care for patients, complete information access for clinicians, economic efficiency, and a scalable foundation for innovation.
• Contrary to the belief that public systems cannot innovate, Jordi’s team has already launched CDR-native applications for immunizations, allergies, and patient-reported outcomes, proving that open innovation can thrive under public leadership.
